and now… the continuing Story! :)
as I looked over the Light Layer of “Pure Imagination” i realized every cRaZy plushie was inspired by so many different things, by all its previous versions, even future versions for a few of them… :)
"uniCAN!"... a symbol that everything is possible if you believe in yourself. uniCAN! exists as paintings, sketches, a sculpture, and is going to become much, Much more!!! This is the original "uniCAN!" painting and polished bronze sculpture in my 2022 LBMA Solo Show.
Super Mario 64 had a Huge impact on me as a kid and i partially credit video games to my creativity... i also love the playful, chaotic symbol of these bombs.
"Party Snake" is a celebration of creativity AND a celebration of life. "Party Snake" was part of my LBMA Solo Show. My guess is that you will see this party-going Snake very soon!... maybe in soft, squishy form ;)
"Dancing Dino"... a symbol of creating your own happiness. One of my favorite quotes, "There are no shortcuts to happiness... except dancing"... i love that. The first inspiration came from this pink dino "fabulous" which was part of my 2022 "WILD" Solo Show.
My wife Tara, and myself, love dogs... especially Shiba Inus. I created "New Puppy" as a Xmas gift for Tara and now try to find any opportunity to create Shiba Inus for Tara.
"funny bunny" was the cRaZy stuFFed aniMAL bunny that was the original inspiration for all future bunnies!... "funny bunny" lives on in each new floppy-eared creation i do.
The giant turquoise bunny in "Pure Imagination" had many inspirations... most prominently was "What Are You Doing!?" from my 2022 WILD Solo Show. I often say that if you get the eyes "right" then you will get the painting "right"... i Love the eyes in both of these plushies! :)
Can you see the inspiration!? ;) This pink and blue pig was inspired from my Very first Stuffed Animal Pile painting, "Dream Team" in 2015!
Smiles! but with a little tongue and gold bow... maybe in July 2024 there will be something new coming... maybe a 2nd Edition of some sort ;)
a few fun things here... that blue/orange Quilt was inspired from my first ever Quilt, "Gardens No.1" 2020. Now for the full circle, "Gardens No.1" AND All Quilts were inspired from an Amish Quilt show i saw in 2018 at the San Diego Museum of Art. The first piece i saw at this show was an amazingly beautiful blue and orange checkered piece ;) Lastly, do you see that little plushie in the corner!?... the more i create the more i make sure to put intention and love to all aspects of the canvas... especially the edges and corners. There is one more hidden plushie in this piece ;)
“Pure Imagination” is a painting that is incredibly representative of where i am with my art journey
Every plushie is inspired by the ones that came before it and every plushie has the potential to inspire new paintings and real life plushies in the future. They are all connected to each other, through previous paintings, ongoing series, or special moments or people in my life… each one of the plushies tells a story of who i was, who i am, and even a peak into where i want to go :)
